"Door County Sentinel"

Cana Island Lighthouse - Door County,  Wisconsin

It had been several years since I had photographed the Cana Island Lighthouse on the Door County Peninsula and I wanted to create some new images of it .  The low Lake Michigan water levels had exposed the rock shelf that surrounds this small island and allowed me move farther away from the lighthouse.  Yet, I felt I needed to be farther away. So off went the shoes and socks and into the water I went.  I loved the composition but the light and clouds where uninspiring in this first image.  I returned on repeated occasions to capture the image in more dramatic weather conditions.  It took almost two years before I made this image.  It was a gloomy dark evening and I was loosing hope. But, as the sun was setting it broke through a small clearing and with it's finial rays of light illuminated the clouds above the island with a wonderful pink glow.
