American Basin - Colorado

Want to get away? When I think of truly getting away it’s usually far away from everything. American basin in south central Colorado is one of those places. Because of it’s high elevation and heavy annual snowfall it is only accessible from late spring to early fall. It’s not far from civilization but can only be reached by rugged four wheel drive back roads. To get this image I arrived here late one afternoon and started exploring for good photo opportunities. The time flew by quickly as I composed and recorded several images and before I knew it the sun had set and I had the basin all to my self. After setting up camp I spent the night next to this waterfall. I woke early to capture the first beams of light striking the peaks. I had spent less than a day here, but it was time to go, I had recharged my batteries but drained all the camera batteries and needed to return to civilization .
