"The Road Less Traveled"

Door County, Wisconsin

I have talked to several people to find out why this road has all these curves. Everyone seems to have their own explanation. Some say it’s to attract tourists, others believe it’s to slow down traffic. The best explanation I’ve heard is that’s how it was first made as a carriage trail and just never straightened out. For years I have been waiting for the opportunity to photograph it during the winter season. The morning this image was taken, I arrived at the first light of day. A fresh wet and sticky snowfall had covered the trees in a wonderful tapestry, but you could barely see the road. A quick drive down and back help bring out the twists and turns that uniquely characterize this road.
